Objectives and Scope of the Assignment

The primary objective of this assignment is to: 1) Support the International Minigrid Business Model and Finance Expert in capacity building activities for financial institutions in the first year and provide direct support and capacity building to local financial institutions in subsequent years (i.e. Years 2 to 3) 2) Support the International Minigrid Business Model and Finance Expert in developing an equipment leasing scheme for productive energy uses 3) Support the International Derisking Renewable Energy Investment (DREI) Expert in carrying out minigrid DREI analyses and report at mid-term and at the end-of-project 4) Coordinate with local and regional stakeholders (minigrid developers / operators, financial institutions, development partners) to organise structured DREI interviews 5) Carry out collection of data for input in DREI modelling 6) Support in write up of DREI reports on a needs basis

Consultant Competencies

The required qualifications and experience of the consultant are as follows: · An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in Finance, Economics or a related field · At least 10 years of relevant work experience across Financial and Business model development or the development and operation of product financing or leasing schemes · Experience in working with the UN, and UNDP in particular, international organizations, and similar agencies would be an advantage · Clear understanding of the economics of - and skills for financial evaluation of minigrid projects · Previous experience in conducting similar assignments.

Submission of First draft of report

The consultant shall present the project deliverables in a session with the PMU

Submission of final report

(i) Submission of report on equipment leasing and business models for the renewable energy Minigrids in rural agricultural value chains (ii) Submission of Concept Note, training manual and Agenda for capacity building workshop for financial institutions on mini-grid investment in the rural agriculture value chains (iii) Submission of report of capacity building workshop for financial institutions
